Asian Tuna Patties
Main Dish, Side Dish, Sandwich
This is a versatile dish that can function as an entrée, side dish or as a sandwich. Simply breaded tuna fried crisp with a little Asian flair, these nevertheless add a complex quality to any meal of which they are a part. Quick to prepare, you should be ready in about 15 minutes. Cook time is 20 minutes. This recipe yields about 6 servings, well, 6 patties.
Ingredients/Shopping List
- ¾ cup dry bread crumbs
- ½ cup cornmeal
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 3 green onions, minced
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tuna, drained and flaked
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Directions
Mix tuna, egg, bread crumbs, green onions, and garlic then blend soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, and pepper.
Form mixture into 6 patties about 1 inch thick. Sprinkle cornmeal to coat each patty.
Heat oil in skillet at medium heat. Fry patties for 5 minutes on each side. Result will be golden brown.
Serving suggestions are far to many to list. Use your imagination.
- As an entrée, this goes will with a variety of soups. Crudités go well too.
- As a sandwich, use very thin bread or serve on a bun. They can be topped with cold lettuce and a slice of tomato or a bit of onion to good effect.
- As a side dish, serve with a small bowl of soy sauce or teriyaki sauce for dipping. Ranch dressing with a bit of wasabi makes a good dipping sauce too.
