Cajun Style Burgers
Main Dish, Sandwich
These burgers are spicy!. I prefer them prepared on the grill and topped with barbecue sauce and a nice thick slice of onion, but there's nothing to keep you from fixing them on the stove and topping them with whatever you like. Prep time of 10 Minutes and cook time of 20 makes this an after-work dinner that you can have ready in 30 minutes any evening. You get 4 burgers.
Ingredients/Shopping List
- ¼ cup barbeque sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
- 4 teapoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese
Directions
Preheat grill for high heat.
Mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, green onions, 1 tablespoon (3 teaspoons) Cajun seasoning, and mustard.
Form into 4 patties.
Blend barbeque sauce and 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning.
Cook the patties 5 minutes per side for a medium burger, reduce a bit for rare, add a little time for well-done.
Top with cheese and allow to melt before removing from the grill. Serve topped with the seasoned barbecue sauce.
Variations:
- Try Creole seasoning instead of Cajun.
- Substitute a mild yellow onion for the green onions.
- This recipe will also work (though I'm not wild about the results) with Greek Spice seasoning or Lemon Pepper seasoning.
- Try marinading the hamburger in 1 cup Coke or Pepsi, ¼ cup worcestershire sauce, 1/8 cup of soy sauce, and a splash of A1 Steak Sauce. Don't marinate too long, a couple hours will do it.
